The Pour House in Airport Square is hosting a Dine and Donate fundraiser to benefit a local dog rescue.
On Nov. 8 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the restaurant will donate 15 percent of diners’ checks to Dog Town Rescue in Colmar. In order for money to be donated on the day of the event, anyone dining just needs to tell their server that they are there for Dog Town’s Dine and Donate event and they will take care of the donation.
Dog Town Rescue was started by Jennifer Joseph, who was running Dog Town Dog Daycare. She was inspired to start a rescue by one of her customers who was fostering dogs and would bring in a new dog every month or two.
“The third or fourth dog she brought in, I totally fell in love with,” Joseph said. “I ended up taking him home that day and adopting him.”
Joseph and the customer became friends and would go to Animal Care and Control Team (ACCT) in Philadelphia. Since ACCT is Philadelphia’s only animal shelter, animals are euthanized daily to make more space. Joseph was heartbroken by this and began fostering dogs out of Dog Town.
From there, she became friends with the volunteers at ACCT, and Dog Town Rescue was formed out of those relationships. Once she got volunteers through her business, Joseph was able to go to ACCT regularly to rescue dogs and start up a nonprofit.
Dog Town Rescue does a few fundraisers with The Pour House each year, and they do fundraisers such as purse bingo as well. The money goes to help alleviate vet costs for any medical care and tests their rescue dogs may need done.
