The North Pennsmen and the Liberty Belles are teaming up to support Manna on Main Street with their Second Annual Music for Manna benefit concert.
The barbershop choruses will take place on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m at St. John’s UCC in Lansdale. Admission is free, but a donation is requested, with all of the money raised going to Manna on Main Street. The money will not only help with Manna’s soup kitchen and cupboard, but will also provide assistance with the various training programs they offer.
“North Pennsmen began supporting Manna on Main Street a few years ago when we decided, as an organization, to support something community-based,” said Anne Bureau, the director of both the North Pennsmen and the Liberty Belles.
After supporting Manna in multiple ways, the chorus received a suggestion from the pastor at St. John’s UCC to host a concert to benefit Manna. Last year’s concert attracted a couple hundred people, according to bureau.
While the groups will perform on their own for most songs, they will join forces to sing three of the six songs they perform together. The choruses will perform songs from their usual repertoires, including songs that go back to the early 1900’s as well as newer songs. The songs are all sung a cappella.
“There’s a good array of songs to please any type of audience,” said Bureau.
