Café V-DaL was named the Business of the Month for August 2018 by the Economic Development Committee at the Lansdale Borough Council Meeting on August 15, 2018.
The owners, Valentina and Zlati Stoyanov, moved from Bulgaria to Harleysville in 2006. They met while Valentina was cashiering and Zlati needed change. The couple has two kids, Daniel and Leah. The café—which opened in June 2016-- is named after his wife and kids, the people he loves the most.
Customers come from Hatfield, Lansdale, Montgomeryville, and beyond because they hear how wonderful the food is. The most popular item on the menu are the crepes, particularly the Nutella crepes and cheese crepes, though there are several other varieties.
Zlati and Valentina both work at the café, and they both think the other is the best cook. They have five employees who work there, and their motto is “If the employees aren’t happy, the customers aren’t happy.”
Richard Strahm, vice chairman of Lansdale Borough’s Economic Development Committee, chose Café V-DaL as the Business of the Month because it adds to the diversity of Lansdale.
“I think the Stroyanovs and Café V-DaL are well-deserving of this honor because they are a perfect example of how people with love in their hearts, a dream, and a vision can--with hard work--turn those dreams into a reality,” Strahm said. “They bring to Lansdale a restaurant with flavors you can’t find elsewhere.”
Strahm, who grew up in Greece, took his first trip without his parents to Bulgaria when he was 13, so the fact that the Stroyanovs are from Bulgaria added a bit of a personal touch to having Café V-Dal be the Business of the Month.
The Stoyanovs could not be at the Council meeting because they were on vacation, which is their first vacation since opening the café. They will be given their plaque once they return.
Café V-DaL is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. They serve both breakfast and lunch during business hours.
