Troop 137 in Harleysville recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to Jeremy Evans at a Court of Honor ceremony held at Advent Lutheran Church.
Achieved by only 4% of scouts nationwide, Eagle is the highest rank awarded by Scouts BSA. Evans, a Souderton Area High School student, earned the rank by planning and leading a scout project to install four Little Free Libraries at local churches, including Advent Lutheran Church in Harleysville, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Telford, Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Souderton and Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale, said the Troop.
The 150-hour project also included a book drive and the installation of four benches. Evans will assist in the maintenance of the libraries until he turns 18-years-old, ultimately helping to make reading more accessible to all.
In addition to the project, Evans has earned 51 merit badges and logged 99 nights of camping, over 140 miles of hiking and over 50 hours of service. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow and has held numerous troop leadership positions, said the Troop.
Troop 137 is part of the General Nash District in the Cradle of Liberty Council and are proudly sponsored by the Harleysville Lions Club.
