Community to gather Sunday night for Maria Bernarda Popol Guerra as investigation into her death remains ongoing
A candlelight vigil is planned this weekend in Telford to remember Maria Bernarda Popol Guerra, 22, whose death earlier this month has been ruled a homicide.
The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, at the municipal parking lot at the intersection of Penn and Main streets in Telford Borough, on the Bucks County side.
Organizers said all are welcome to attend, with candles to be provided. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to help organizers estimate turnout.
The gathering comes nearly two weeks after Telford Borough Police were dispatched the morning of March 15 to an apartment in the 100 block of Main Street for a report of an unresponsive person.
Officers arrived to find Popol Guerra deceased. Following an autopsy, the Bucks County Coroner’s Office ruled her death a homicide. Authorities have said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Family members and loved ones have described Popol Guerra as a young woman taken far too soon. A relative wrote in an online fundraiser that she was killed just before her 23rd birthday, calling her death unjust and urging support for her family.
According to the post, her parents are currently in Guatemala and are seeking assistance to bring her body home.
As of this week, the fundraiser had reached approximately 89% of its $10,000 goal, with more than 180 donations, with the highest single donation at $900.
Community members are expected to gather Sunday not only to mourn, but to show support for her family and call for answers as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Bucks County Detectives at 215-348-6354 or Telford Borough Police at 215-723-6700.
