Five Tips for Looking After Your Pool

Owning your own pool is one of life's simple luxuries until it turns green, gritty, or just plain uninviting. Pool care doesn't need to be too difficult, and it doesn't need to take up all of your time. With the habits that we've listed for you below, you can keep your water sparking and ready whenever you are ready to dive in.

  1. Keep your sanitising habits simple. Your pool is like a big bathtub that never gets emptied, so it needs to be regularly cleaned to stay fresh. Using a system like a Pool Frog can help keep sanitiser levels steady without constant fuss, even if you prefer traditional chlorine. The key is consistency. Check your levels weekly and adjust as needed. The last thing you want is to be surprised with that cloudy water.
  2. Skim a little, relax a lot. Leaves, bugs, and random debris love your pool just as much as you do. Spending just a few minutes skimming the surface every couple of days makes a big difference to your pool and its health. It stops the build up, it keeps your filter from working overtime and getting clogged, and honestly it just makes the pool look way more inviting. You can put on some music and grab the skimmer and then turn it into a ritual rather than chore.
  3. Don't ignore the filter, it's doing all the hard work. Your pool filter is the hero of your entire pool system. It's going to trap dirt, oils, and tiny particles that you don't even notice are happening, but if it gets clogged, everything else is going to suffer. Make it a habit to clean or backwash your filter regularly. How often depends on usage, but once every few weeks is a good starting point. A clean filter means clearer water and less effort overall.
  4. Brush it off. Even if the pool looks clean, algae and grime can start forming on the walls and the floor. Giving it a gentle brush once a week helps to prevent build up before it becomes too visible. Focus on the corners, the steps and shady areas where things like to hide. It's a small task, but it will keep your pool feeling smooth, fresh and well cared for.
  5. Don't forget to watch the water levels. Too much or too little water can throw everything off. Heavy rain can dilute the chemicals, while hot dates can lower levels quickly. Try to keep the water sitting around the middle of your skimmer opening. It's a quick visual check that takes seconds, but it does help your system to run properly, keeps your pool healthy, and it avoids any unnecessary strain on the pump.

Nice and easy, but if you can't do it yourself, you can call somebody and do it for you. It's really about making small, regular habits become your norm rather than a big exhausting cleanup every now and then. A few minutes here and there will keep your pool looking great and always ready for a dip.
