Rescuers are currently aiding a driver on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Extension this afternoon, as a vehicle is flipped on its side.

According to county dispatch, a vehicle accident with rescue required was called into emergency services around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. First responders were dispatched to the area of Interstate 476 near the ramp for Route 63 to merge with northbound lanes of 476 in Towamencin Township. Witnesses said that a tractor trailer was flipped on its side, and that those at the scene were trying to get the driver out.

The driver was reported as out of the truck prior to emergency crew arrivals. The vehicle remains on its side and possible “fluids” were reported on the roadway at the scene of the accident. Cleanup continues at this hour.

Responding to the scene were units from Towamencin Fire CompanyTylersport Fire Company, and area police, among others.
The extent of any injuries was not immediately reported. More information will be published as it is made available.
