Funding will support land acquisition to make garden a permanent part of borough park system
Perkasie Borough has been awarded more than $80,000 in state funding to help preserve a longtime community garden and add it permanently to the borough’s open space network, according to an announcement from state Rep. Shelby Labs.
The $81,200 grant, awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program, will be used toward the purchase of about 0.35 acres at the corner of North 5th Street and Shadywood Drive.
The parcel is identified as the final high-priority open space site in the borough’s Open Space Plan.
The site has operated as a community garden since 2007, and borough officials have received approval from the current property owner to move forward with acquisition. Once preserved, the space will remain available for public use as part of the borough’s park system.
Labs said the funding will help ensure long-term access to green space while maintaining a resource that has served residents for nearly two decades. The project aligns with broader state goals to support recreation, protect open space, and enhance community amenities through the DCNR grant program.
