Perkasie Borough Police welcomed several Guth Elementary School students into the ranks of law enforcement last  week — at least for a day.

The department hosted its second annual Chief For A Day event, recognizing students who performed good deeds throughout the month of February at school, at home, or within the community. Six students, representing each grade level, were selected as honorary police chiefs and sworn in during a ceremony at Perkasie Borough Hall.

Perkasie Mayor Jeff Hollenbach administered the oath of office during the ceremony, attended by students and family members.

Following the swearing-in, the newly minted chiefs received a police escort back to Guth Elementary, where classmates and teachers greeted them with signs and cheers celebrating the honorees and local officers.

In addition to the six honorary chiefs, students from each homeroom were chosen as honorary sergeants and joined officers for a pizza lunch where they had the opportunity to talk with police and learn more about their work.

Perkasie Police said the event has quickly become a favorite tradition for both officers and students and thanked Guth Elementary staff, including Principal Smith, for helping make the program a success. The department said it looks forward to continuing the event in the years ahead.
