Residents can register online or in person to receive window clings and limit door-to-door sales visits
Hatfield Township Police are reminding residents about a simple way to cut down on unwanted door-to-door solicitations through the department’s “Do Not Knock” program.
The initiative allows residents in both Hatfield Township and Hatfield Borough to register their address on an official list shared with solicitors applying for permits.
Once registered, residents can also pick up a “Do Not Knock” static cling to place near their front door, signaling they do not wish to be disturbed.
Police said the list is distributed to individuals and organizations when they apply for a soliciting permit, ensuring those going door-to-door are aware of which homes have opted out.
Violations carry consequences: if a solicitor ignores the list, their entire group can have its permit revoked for 30 days, with repeat offenses leading to longer suspensions and potential penalties under local and state law.
Residents can sign up online or in person at the police department, located at 1655 Cowpath Road. The static clings are available for pickup weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Officials noted that only street addresses are collected and that residents must renew their registration every three years.
The program does not apply to religious, political or nonprofit outreach, but police said it remains an effective way for homeowners to maintain privacy and reduce interruptions from commercial solicitors.
