Families looking to celebrate Earth Day can head to North Penn High School next month for a morning of hands-on environmental activities and a native plant sale designed to support pollinators and local habitat.
A Native Pollinator Plant Sale will take place Saturday, April 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the school’s S-Lot, offering a variety of native species that attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Plants will be available for $5 each or $20 for five plants, with proceeds supporting a native meadow project. Organizers ask buyers to bring cash and consider bringing a box if purchasing multiple plants.
Plants available at the sale will include species such as Swamp Milkweed, Bee Balm, New England Aster, Blue Mistflower, Calico Aster, Golden Ragwort, Wild Pink, and Common Blue Violet, along with other pollinator-friendly varieties. Many of the plants are deer resistant and bloom throughout the summer and fall, providing important habitat and food sources for pollinators.
Later in the morning, families can take part in “Hop Into Spring: An Environmental Adventure for Kids,” a free event geared toward children ages 4 to 10. The program will run 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature a series of activities including a storytime, scavenger hunt, nature game and eco-themed craft. Organizers say the activities are designed to be completed in about an hour.
The event will also coincide with another youth-focused program, “Grow in STEM,” hosted by science clubs from North Penn High School, giving families an opportunity to spend the day exploring environmental education and science activities.
Organizers encourage residents to stop by, learn about native plants, and celebrate spring while supporting local conservation efforts.
