8 home events in Hatfield and Pottstown, plus a March 19 “no experience necessary” new skater program and new sponsorship options
Don’t worry if you blink and miss something – you will certainly hear it.
On a stretch of flat track somewhere between Bucks and Montgomery counties, the sound of wheels and shoulder checks tells a different kind of sports story.
The whistle blows, the pack surges forward and the jammer fights for daylight through a wall of blockers. One skater slips through the pack, another slams the door with a perfectly timed block, and the crowd erupts. Quad skates carving the floor, a cheer slicing through the air, and the kind of teamwork that looks like chaos until you realize every move has a purpose.
It is not Friday night football or a packed high school gym. It is Bux-Mont Roller Derby, where skaters from across the region lace up quad skates and turn speed, strategy and a little controlled chaos into one of the area’s most unique athletic communities.
Roller skating may conjure memories of disco balls and birthday parties at the rink, but the modern version looks a lot different: The music is louder, the hits are harder and the strategy runs deeper as local athletes bring one of America’s most unconventional sports to life across southeastern Pennsylvania.
By day, they are teachers, nurses, students and office workers across Bucks and Montgomery counties. By night, they strap on helmets, tighten their laces and become blockers and jammers for a fast-growing flat-track Women’s Flat Track Derby Association league where athleticism, teamwork and a bit of fearless attitude rule the rink.
This spring, the skater-run league prepares for a busy 2026 season, launches its next new skater program on Thursday, March 19, and looks for sponsors to help keep the wheels turning.
Built “by the skaters, for the skaters,” Bux-Mont was established in 2013 and is sustained by members, supporters and local fans, according to the league.
A packed home schedule, with two venues
According to Bux-Mont’s social committee member Cataclysm (Ashlyn), this year, Bux-Mont said it will host eight home events (with more than 15 games) split between In-Line 309 in Hatfield and 422 Sportsplex in Pottstown, expanding the audience reach for both the league and potential sponsors.
A season highlight early on will be a March doubleheader this weekend at 422 Sportsplex featuring:
An April doubleheader is also on the calendar at 422 Sportsplex, with the Sirens slated to face Roc City Roller Derby and the Valkyries set to take on Harrisburg Area Roller Derby Fallouts, per the league’s event listing.
Bux-Mont fields multiple teams, including travel squads Sirens (A team) and Valkyries (B team), along with home teams Perkiomen Punishers and Nockavixons, according to league materials.
On the competitive side, WFTDA statistics listed the Sirens at 45th in the North America Northeast and the Valkyries at 116th in the same region.
Recruiting begins March 19
The league’s next Spring New Skater Program begins Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at Inline 309, 2117 Bethlehem Pike, Hatfield, and “Cataclysm” stressed that no prior skating experience is required.
The program runs March 19 through June 4 and is designed to teach fundamentals and build skills in tiers, “Cataclysm” said, with the goal of preparing participants to practice with the full league after skill progression.
“Cataclysm” said the program is open to adults 18 and older, with a monthly cost of $55, and that limited loaner gear is available. Skaters are required to have quad skates and protective equipment, and “Cataclysm” also noted that WFTDA insurance is part of the overall participation requirements.
Bux-Mont also is seeking people who want to plug into derby without skating, including skating and non-skating officials, as well as photographers, medics and volunteers, the league said.
Sponsorships, including a named penalty box
With venue rentals, practice time and game-day costs adding up, Bux-Mont said it is actively recruiting sponsors for the 2026 season, with tiered packages starting at $125 and moving through $500.
Per the league’s sponsorship information, benefits can include complimentary tickets, program ads, scoreboard ads, in-game announcements, banners and social media shout-outs, depending on the level.
A standout option this season: an exclusive “Name the Penalty Box” sponsorship for $750, which “Cataclysm” said would put a sponsor’s name into repeated announcements during home games.
A local league, with a community mission
“Cataclysm” said the league’s mission is to provide a “safe, fun, and empowering environment” for skaters, families, volunteers and fans, and that it aims to give back through community involvement and charitable support connected to events.
