A local candidate has called an end, for now, to a campaign for a seat in the state senate.

Towamencin supervisor Kofi Osei announced Monday that he’s suspending his campaign for the 24th state Senate seat currently held by Republican Tracy Pennycuick.

“I tell my Towamencin supporters that they should fight me if they disagree and Jenn is way too strong.,” Osei said, referring to fellow resident Jenn Foster.

“She was my Vice Chair for the Government Study Commission and I was her Vice Chair for Towamencin Dems. Being on the opposite side of her was not easy and I hope to not do that again,” he said.

Last December Osei announced his intention to run for the 24th district state Senate seat for a four-year term starting in 2027, after several years of involvement in township politics in Towamencin starting in 2021.

After residents of the “Towamencin NOPE” group founded by Osei mobilized in an effort to stop the sale of that township’s sewer system, he was elected chairman of the government study commission that debated and ultimately rewrote the township’s charter to make such sales illegal, then was elected — in a contentious tie vote broken by a drawing of lots in a county courtroom — to the board of supervisors in 2023.

In a Facebook post Monday night, Osei thanked those who had supported his campaign so far, offering a “special shout out to the volunteers in Limerick Township. Y’all are rockstars for sure.”

“Let’s turn our attention to flipping SD24. Please support Chris Thomas for State Senate in his efforts to remove the Republican incumbent,” he said, endorsing another Democrat for the position.
