Project comes in well below budget after competitive bidding process
Montgomery Township officials have approved a contract to replace the pedestrian bridge near Montgomery Elementary School along Stump Road following a competitive bidding process earlier this year.
Township commissioners voted to award the contract to J.D. Fedele Construction Demolition, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, for $241,451, based on a recommendation from township engineering firm Gilmore & Associates.
The township received 11 bids for the project when they were opened through the PennBid system on Feb. 26, 2026, with proposals ranging from $241,451 to $1.54 million.
Township officials said the project had been included in the 2026 Capital Investment Plan, which set aside $415,000 for the bridge replacement. The winning bid came in significantly under the budgeted amount.
The project involves replacing the pedestrian bridge serving Montgomery Elementary School along Stump Road, a heavily traveled corridor where the crossing provides a safer route for students and pedestrians in the area.
Commissioners previously authorized the township to advertise the project for bids during a public meeting on March 10, 2025. Construction timelines have not yet been announced.
