More than 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products sold at grocery stores nationwide have been recalled after consumers reported finding pieces of glass in the food, federal officials said.

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., based in Portland, OR, is recalling approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice products that may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The products were produced between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025, officials said.

Products included in the recall

Two products are affected by the recall:

  • Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice in 20-ounce plastic bags with best-by dates Sept. 8, 2026 through Nov. 17, 2026
  • Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice in 1.53-kilogram cardboard packages containing six bags with best-before dates Sept. 9, 2026 through Nov. 12, 2026

The recalled products bear establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The Trader Joe’s product was shipped to retail stores nationwide, while the Ajinomoto-branded product was exported only to Canada, according to FSIS.

Complaints prompted the recall

The recall was initiated after the company notified federal regulators that it had received four consumer complaints reporting glass found in the product.

Officials said there have not been any confirmed reports of injuries linked to the recalled food. Anyone concerned about a potential injury is advised to contact a healthcare provider.

What consumers should do

Food safety officials warn that some of the affected products may still be in consumers’ freezers.

Consumers who purchased the recalled items are urged not to eat them. Instead, they should throw the products away or return them to the store where they were purchased.

FSIS said it will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure retailers and distributors remove the products from sale.
