A Hatfield Borough woman is facing a felony charge after police said she struck an officer in the face and resisted arrest during an early morning incident in Hatfield Township.

Tymber Leigh McLaughlin, 27, of the 200 block of Chestnut Street, was charged Feb. 21 with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest and summary public drunkenness, according to a criminal complaint filed by Hatfield Police.

Officers were dispatched around 1:13 a.m. to the area of Cowpath Road and Cindy Lane for a report of two females possibly intoxicated and falling near the roadway, according to the affidavit. Police said that upon arrival, officers observed McLaughlin stumble into a grassy area after losing her balance.

According to police, while officers were speaking with the second individual, McLaughlin began yelling and swinging her hands at an officer. The complaint alleges she struck the officer in the chin with an open hand.

Police said McLaughlin refused repeated commands to place her hands behind her back and continued to resist as officers attempted to take her into custody. Additional officers responded to assist. Authorities alleged she tensed her arms, turned her body to avoid handcuffing and later attempted to pull away while being escorted to a patrol vehicle.

Once secured in the vehicle, police alleged McLaughlin attempted to kick out a rear patrol car window.

McLaughlin is free on $7,500 cash bail, per court records. A preliminary hearing is set for March 31 before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
