After nearly 13 years leading the Souderton Area School District as Superintendent of  Schools, and 25 years of administrative leadership in the district, Dr. Frank Gallagher publicly announced his retirement Friday, effective June 30, 2026.

Dr. Gallagher has led the district with passion, commitment, and integrity, and his  steady leadership and love of this school community will be greatly missed, said a school district statement. Dr.  Gallagher began his career as an emotional support and learning support teacher in  Bucks County. He became principal of Lower Salford Elementary School in 2001, then  served as the district’s director of pupil services and assistant superintendent before becoming superintendent in 2013.

“Leading this district has been an honor and privilege I will always cherish,” said Dr.  Gallagher. “I am deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Our students,  staff, families, and community inspire me every single day. As I prepare for this next chapter, I do so with immense gratitude for the trust and partnership that have defined  my years here.”

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Gallagher has championed student wellness and mental health; led the expansion of academic and extracurricular opportunities for students;  overseen the implementation of a full-day kindergarten program; helped the district focus on numerous academic, technological, and infrastructure advances; and has been  a tireless advocate for public education, serving on the boards of several statewide advocacy groups and working closely with legislators to support public education.

School Board President Ken Keith said, “Dr. Gallagher’s leadership has had a profound  and positive impact on our district, and his steady guidance has helped shape a culture  of excellence and care. He has always led with integrity, compassion, and a deep dedication to fostering a strong and supportive school community. We will miss him, and we are grateful for the lasting legacy he leaves behind.”

The school board had been informed of Dr. Gallagher’s intentions and have been working diligently since January in executive session to prepare for the selection of the next superintendent, according to the district statement. “The board takes seriously its responsibility to appoint a superintendent and anticipates sharing more details in the coming weeks,” said Keith.

Dr. Gallagher announced his retirement to school district staff Friday. He will continue to lead with the same energy and care in his remaining months, guiding the district  through commencement season and the many exciting events still ahead this school year, the public announcement said.
