North Penn School District elementary schools will be holding the annual Reading Super Bowl on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.
This literacy event is held in conjunction with the NFL Super Bowl and is a chance for North Penn High School football players to visit elementary schools in the district and read to students.
The event is mutually beneficial, encouraging young students to read and find a love of books while also providing high school students the opportunity to be role models for younger students and develop leadership skills. The event is not only promoting literacy, but is a reading “soup”-er bowl, encouraging the students, staff, and community to donate canned soup and other goods for Manna on Main Street.
In 2005, the first year the program was held, 30 football players visited eight elementary schools. This year, 70 players and team managers will visit all 13 elementary schools, read to 288 classrooms, and reach 6,524 NPSD elementary students to celebrate literacy and a love of reading. The players will depart the high school at 9:15 am and spend the morning reading with elementary students until 11:00 am.
The event is supported by the North Penn School District Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing North Penn students with enhanced educational experiences and resources. To learn more about the NPSD Educational Foundation, please visit their website.
