Scott McMaster, 65, of Woxall, passed away suddenly during the early morning hours of Jan. 25 in Winter Haven, FL.

Born in Philadelphia, he was primarily raised by his mother, Nancy Sherlock. As a young man he moved to Harleysville to begin employment at a local insurance company, where he would eventually meet his future wife, make lifelong friends and, develop an interest in emergency services.

With a growing family, Scott then packed up and moved to Woxall. It was there that he joined Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company and faithfully served his community for many years as a fireman, treasurer, assistant chief, chief, and president, while simultaneously working as a safety manager for Merck Pharmaceuticals and earning a degree in fire sciences one class at a time at Montgomery County Community College.

Scott was known for his larger-than-life personality, off the wall sense of humor and his devotion to helping others. He was able to complete his personal goal of retiring early to snowbird between his final residence in Hanover, PA and winter residence in Florida. He and his family enjoyed cruising, traveling to approximately 25 different foreign countries, sometimes twice. He also enjoyed history, volunteering for various community events, his annual visits to the Wilson Hill Wellness center (the cabin), comedy movies, and cracking jokes (and beers) with his buddies.

Scott is survived by his wife, Shelly, his two adult children, Kristen and Scott Jr., his son in law, Landon, his granddaughter, Evey, his brother and sister in law, Mike and Carol, as well as his grand-cats Goblin and Dumdum.

To fulfill Scott’s wishes, a party will be held in his honor at Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company on Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. An open invitation is extended to everyone who knew Scott and would like to pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, his family is encouraging monetary donations be made in Scott’s memory to Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company. A drop-off point will be available on site the day of his party.

At this time, the family would like to publicly thank his friends, the community, and the fire company for their support in the days since Scott’s passing.
