Towamencin Township Police are investigating a suspected animal cruelty case after a domestic rabbit was found inside a trash bag in a dumpster behind a local business last week.

Officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. Jan. 21, 2025 to the area behind the new Harbor Freight store at The Shops at Town Square, where the rabbit was discovered in a plastic trash bag inside a dumpster, according to police. 

Authorities said the animal appeared to be a domesticated pet. Officers were able to secure the rabbit, which has since been taken to the Montgomery County SPCA, where it is safe and receiving care.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the animal or how it ended up in the dumpster to come forward. The investigation is being handled as an animal cruelty case.

The Shops at Town Square is the former Towamencin Shopping Village at Allentown and Forty Foot roads.
