The suspect who fled and evaded capture from authorities in a Lansdale neighborhood Thursday afternoon, prompting a lockdown of Penndale Middle School and an extensive search in the Pennbrook neighborhood off Hancock Street, was apprehended and taken into custody, authorities announced Friday.
Upper Gwynedd Police announced the apprehension of Malik Palmer via Facebook and said more information will be provided at a later time. It is unknown when or where he was apprehended at this time.
Palmer was considered a robbery fugitive from justice, according to the FBI.
On Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 p.m., Upper Gwynedd Police was advised that Palmer was possibly in the area of Pennbrook Train Station, Upper Gwynedd Police said.
Patrol officers responded to the area and saw Palmer. When officers attempted to make contact with him, he allegedly fled on foot, despite being ordered to stop.
A search ensued of the area with aid from Lansdale Police, Whitpain Township Police, Towamencin Township Police, Lower Providence Township Police, Montgomery Township Police and its K-9 unit, Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI.
While conducting the search, decisions regarding public safety were made in real time, police said. As the search progressed, schools were notified if a lockdown was necessary or if the students could be released, police said.
