Schools in the North Penn School District are participating in several service projects and other programs to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Designated as a federal holiday in 1986, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is often celebrated as a Day of Service to honor King and his legacy. North Penn School District continues to honor this Day of Service through many volunteer projects.

At Bridle Path Elementary, each grade level is participating in a different service project. Students will be creating colorful posters, supporting NICU families, and creating birthday kits for Liz’s Birthday Closet.

Gwyn-Nor Elementary is supporting a family in Jamaica who was affected by Hurricane Melissa in October. The school is collecting clothing, toys, and non-perishable food items.

Gwynedd Square Elementary is creating care packages with drawings and cards for the Code Blue Shelter in Lansdale and Jenna’s Blessing Bags.

Hatfield Elementary is partnering with Trinity Lutheran Church to create Kindness Placemats for the church’s free Monday community meals.

Knapp Elementary is participating in a Knapp Kindness Celebration. Students are invited to write positive “shout outs” recognizing the kind actions, words, and character of their peers. These messages will be displayed on a Kindness Banner in the hallway, creating a shared space to celebrate empathy, respect, and inclusion.

Kulp Elementary’s student council is leading an “I Have A Dream” activity, encouraging students to share their own dreams, in line with Martin Luther King Jr.’s emphasis on kindness and community.

Montgomery Elementary is making cards of encouragement for Cradles to Crayons, an organization that collects children’s items for disadvantaged youth in Greater Philadelphia.

Nash Elementary is partnering with Mitzvah Circle and is collecting gently used clothing. The donated items will be sorted and organized by students, providing a hands-on community service experience.

North Wales Elementary students are creating dental bags including an electric toothbrush and two tubes of toothpaste for all students in the community. This was a donation and collaboration with the Pennsylvania Coalition of Oral Health, supported by the American Dental Association.

York Avenue Elementary held a day of service where participants created breakfast bags for Manna on Main Street, collected cards for seniors at Elm Terrace, and more.

Penndale Middle School is holding a “Mix it Up Lunch”, encouraging students to sit with different peers and make new connections.
