Democrats solidified their majority on Souderton Borough Council Monday, January 5 at council’s reorganization meeting.
The meeting saw the swearing in of Democratic newcomers Stephanie Cross and Daniel Bencsik, Democratic incumbent Andy Richter and Republican incumbent Stephanie Costa, yielding a 6-2 Democratic majority. Mayor Dan Yocum was also sworn in after winning re-election.
Councilor-elect Rachel Mackey was not sworn in due to an unexpected work conflict, said Yocum. The borough is currently accepting letters of interest for the position. Interested parties must live in Ward 2 and have been a resident for at least one year.
Letters and resumes may be submitted to Souderton Borough Manager Sara Jarrett-Eaton at [email protected]. by January 16 at 5 p.m. Council will review applications at its January 20 work session and fill the vacancy shortly thereafter, said Yocum.
Following the swearing in ceremony, council elected Democrat Julie Munden and Democrat Daryl Littlefield as council president and vice president, respectively. Munden has served on council since 2017, while Littlefield has served since 2020.
