Bo Bichette's meeting with Phillies 'said to have gone very well'

The first update since free-agent infielder Bo Bichette met virtually with the Phillies Monday has emerged.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported Tuesday morning that the meeting "is said to have gone very well." Heyman added that "Bichette admires first class organization."

Obviously, that still leaves many other questions. Was an offer made to Bichette? Did the Phillies pitch Bichette on playing second base, and if so, what does that mean for their current crop of infielders? Does the two-time All-Star intend to make a decision in free agency soon? Does he have meetings scheduled with other suitors, such as the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees?

What we do know is that a Phillies team who currently has a pretty glaring hole at the cleanup spot in their lineup would benefit greatly from adding Bichette, who hit .311 with an .840 OPS for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. Whether Bichette would hit cleanup, or hit closer to the top of the order and push Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber down, his addition would unquestionably lengthen Rob Thomson's lineup.

Additionally, Bichette will turn only 28 years old in March, which would make him the rare player in the Phillies' lineup — particularly among the stars — that is on the right side of 30. As the Phillies try to build a sustained contender, don't underestimate the importance of Bichette's relative youth in this rather surprising pursuit.

We will continue to provide the latest updates on the Bichette sweepstakes as they come in.
