Pennsylvania State Police released the identity of the motorcyclist killed in a single motorcycle crash in Worcester Township early Friday morning as a 53-year-old North Wales man.
Police said Christopher Monaghan's cause of death was excessive speed and extreme trauma to the body.
State police said a passerby reported the crash at about 4:30 a.m. Friday after discovering a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and Monaghan near the intersection of Bethel Drive, Morris Road, and West Point Pike.
Monaghan, who had addresses listed online for an apartment on the 100 block of South Main Street in North Wales Borough, and Barren Road in Newtown, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.
His identity was withheld due to notification of next of kin.
Based on a crash reconstruction, police said Monaghan had been traveling southbound on West Point Pike when he lost control while crossing Morris Road. The motorcycle then left the roadway and struck a stand of trees along Bethel Drive. No witnesses to the collision were reported, police said.
Bethel Drive was closed beginning at 4:40 a.m. Friday while police conducted their investigation and was fully reopened by about 7:30 a.m.
