Police said the incident was a targeted act in a Crimewatch news release Tuesday afternoon
Ring camera footage captured the sound of at least 10 gunshots shattering the 12:30 a.m. silence in a shootout Tuesday involving, what video shows, two pedestrians and a car on the 300 block of West Mt. Vernon Street in Lansdale Borough’s quiet West Ward neighborhood.
The video, provided to North Penn Now, which faces the York Avenue Pocket Park between Susquehanna and Richardson avenues, shows, at 12:31 a.m., two suspects walking on the sidewalk toward Richardson Avenue, and a vehicle driving in the same direction, honking twice. The pedestrians pick up the pace, as a second vehicle comes from the opposite direction, toward Susquehanna Avenue.
Then, at least 10 gunshots are fired as the second vehicle leaves the frame toward Susquehanna. It is uncertain if occupants of the fleeing vehicle were exchanging gunfire.
Police said the incident was a targeted act in a Crimewatch news release Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded at 12:33 a.m for a report of shots fired.
The initial investigation determined the suspects fired multiple rounds at a moving vehicle on the same block, police said in the release.
The car was hit by gunfire, as well as three parked vehicles in the area, police said. Police did not release descriptions of the vehicles.
There were no reported injuries.
This incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone in the area with surveillance cameras, including residential, business, or doorbell cameras (such as Ring), to review their footage from the time of the incident.
Anyone with information or video related to this matter is asked to contact the Lansdale Borough Police Department at 215-368-1801.
Neighbors on the block shared their reactions online Tuesday following the announcement from police.
One neighbor wrote they heard a car horn followed by “two strings of fire, maybe about six total shots,” but admitted to being startled awake by the event. Another neighbor reported their neighbor’s car was rummaged through at Pocket Park.
One poster said their mother heard the same commotion last week around 3 a.m. A few others passed it all off as, ironically, fireworks.
