Franconia Township Police Officer Wayne Pursell began his law enforcement journey in April of 1996 with the New Britain Borough Police Department in Bucks County.

Though classified as part-time, he worked more than full-time, often logging 40 hours a week or more.

From those early days, it was clear that policing wasn’t just a job for him; it was a calling.

On Thursday, Pursell retired with 25 years of service to Franconia Township, with his last call and last ride celebrated Dec. 12.

In April of 1999, he joined the Franconia Township Police Department, where he has proudly served ever since. Between both departments, he has dedicated an incredible 30 years to protecting and supporting the public.

Three decades of commitment, sacrifice, and integrity; an achievement worthy of deep respect.

Throughout his career, Officer Pursell received numerous department commendations, including several for his attendance during the early years.

His commitment to training and professional growth has been remarkable. Over the years, he earned nearly 100 training certificates, covering a wide range of policing disciplines: Drug Interdiction, Narcotics Recognition, Accident Investigation, Document fraud, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and Crime Scene Investigation, plus many more.

His dedication to mastering the craft of policing has directly strengthened the capabilities of our department and improved the safety of our community.

Officer Pursell was also deeply involved in specialized roles and regional collaborative efforts. He served with distinction on the North Penn DUI Task Force, the Montgomery County Drug Task Force, Bike Patrol, the MIRT (Major Incident Response Team) Team, and contributed to our department’s readiness and professionalism as a Taser Instructor.

His commitment extended beyond the street — literally — to the range. As a member of the FOP Pistol League, he was twice recognized as the Most Improved Shooter, demonstrating once again that he approaches every challenge with humility, determination, and the desire to keep getting better.

Officer Wayne Pursell, your career reflects what every chief hopes to see in an officer: dedication, curiosity, professionalism, teamwork, and a genuine desire to serve. You have upheld the values of this department with honor, and you have done so with humor, humility, and heart.
