Instagram posts indicate organizers are coordinating with school administration to carry out the protest safely
A student-organized walkout tied to immigration enforcement concerns is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Souderton Area High School, according to an Instagram account promoting the event.
The account, @iceoutsoudy, which lists 358 followers, posted that “The walkout has been moved to 10:30 a.m. Be in the bus loop. Re-enter the school through the main entrance. Wear all black if you cannot attend.”
Another post reads, “Your voice matters Souderton,” while a third states, “Many people are confused about the walkout and the details regarding it. We are working with admin to make a plan and safely execute a protest.”
It was not immediately clear what specific incident or policy prompted the planned demonstration, though the messaging references ICE, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The post indicates organizers are coordinating with school administration to carry out the protest safely and have instructed students to re-enter the building through the main entrance after gathering in the bus loop.
In an email to families, the district stated:
It has come to our attention that some high school students are planning a walkout demonstration to the bus loop on Friday in response to recent immigration-related events.
We respect students’ constitutional rights to freedom of expression. We also take seriously our responsibility to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for all students.
Instruction on Friday will continue as scheduled, and school rules and attendance procedures remain in effect. Per the Student Code of Conduct, students who leave class will receive an after school detention and zero credit for any missed assignments or assessments.
These consequences are not related to the content or viewpoint of any demonstration, but solely to the decision to leave class. We are actively collaborating with our safety and security team to provide appropriate supervision, supporting students’ safety both inside and outside the building should a demonstration occur.
While we will have safety protocols in place, any walkout would be an unauthorized non-school event. We strongly encourage parents and guardians to engage your child in conversation about their plans and their potential academic and disciplinary implications
Thank you for your partnership as we continue our commitment to providing a safe focus and educational environment.
