Indians to face Methacton for third place before state tournament

Souderton’s bid for a District 1-6A title came up short Tuesday night, as fifth-seeded Big Red fell 73-61 to top-seeded Plymouth-Whitemarsh in the semifinal round.

The Indians, according to The Mercury, were making their first district semifinal appearance since 2010 and battled throughout a tightly contested first half that featured multiple lead changes and a 35-34 Plymouth Whitemarsh edge at the break.

Marques Brown paced Souderton early, scoring 15 of his game-high 21 points before halftime, while Chanse Salone and Nate Rusike kept the offense humming as the teams traded momentum, per gameplay coverage.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh seized control in the second half, using a late third-quarter surge to build separation. Souderton trimmed the deficit to as little as two midway through the third and later within seven in the fourth, with Salone finishing with 18 points and Rusike adding 17.

However, per gameplay reporting, the Colonials responded to each push and maintained their lead down the stretch despite uneven free-throw shooting.

Souderton (19-7) now turns its focus to Saturday’s District 1-6A third-place game at Methacton, with state playoff positioning on the line ahead of the PIAA-6A tournament beginning March 7.
