PennDOT announced Friday that construction will begin on Monday, March 2, on a $345,692 project to remove and replace the bridge that carries Allentown Road over Towamencin Creek, as well as replace a residential driveway along the project area, in Upper Gwynedd Township.
The bridge is located between Green and South Broad streets on the 800 block of Allentown Road.
Under this project, according to PennDOT, its contractor – Richard E. Pierson Construction Co., Inc. of Pilesgrove, NJ – will remove the current bridge, which is in poor condition, and replace the structure with a new driveway to maintain one property owner’s access point to Allentown Road.
Ownership of the driveway will be transferred to the property owner, PennDOT said.
This project does not include work on the publicly-used Allentown Road bridge over Towamencin Creek.
Work on this project is expected to be completed this summer.
Road restrictions are planned and will be announced in the coming months.
PennDOT advised drivers to allow extra time when traveling near the work area due to possible backups and delays.
All scheduled construction is weather dependent.
PennDOT said the project is fully financed with federal funds.
