Donations are being accepted on Sunday – the final day to donate – for the victims of an apartment fire in Lansdale that left several families displaced earlier this month.
Borough officials announced this week that donations will be accepted at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Main Street, from 8 a.m. to noon for victims of the fire at the Oakwood Gardens apartments.
Donations can be dropped in the donation box in the church lobby.
In her Mayor’s Report at Wednesday night’s Lansdale Borough Council meeting, Mayor Rachael Bollens said she had met with local clergy in the wake of the fire.
“Our hearts remain with the affected families,” Bollens said. “Trinity Lutheran Church is accepting gift card donations to support the displaced residents.”
In his Manager’s Report on Wednesday, Borough Manager John Ernst said Sunday would be the final day to donate in support of members of the community who were affected by the fire.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has already contributed, and your generosity is already making a meaningful difference,” Ernst said. “Those who still wish to help are reminded that only gift card donations are being accepted, so that individuals and families can purchase what they need most.”
Emergency crews were dispatched just before 4 a.m. on Feb. 5 to an apartment fire on the 400 block of East Main Street . A total of 16 people in six families were assisted by the Philadelphia chapter of the American Red Cross, including at a reception center set up at Lansdale Catholic High School, the Red Cross said later that day.
In the days after the fire, borough staff helped coordinate donations from residents, who offered gift cards to local retailers to help those displaced.
