Residents across the Philadelphia region should prepare for a return to winter weather as a developing nor’easter is expected to bring accumulating snow, gusty winds, and possible coastal flooding late Sunday into early Monday morning, according to reports.

Forecasters say the storm will begin to take shape over the weekend, with clouds increasing Saturday night and spotty precipitation developing during the day Sunday. Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing initially, leading to a mix of rain and snow showers throughout much of Sunday.

The heaviest snowfall is currently forecast between late Sunday night and sunrise Monday, when bands of moderate to heavy snow could move through the region. Most communities are expected to receive 4-to-6 inches of snow, while South Jersey and coastal areas could see 6-to-8 inches of heavy, wet accumulation, depending on the storm’s final track and intensity.

Strong, gusty winds accompanying the storm may also create hazardous travel conditions and could contribute to minor coastal flooding in vulnerable areas.

Monday morning commuters should plan for slower travel and allow extra time to clear snow from vehicles and sidewalks. Officials warn that snowfall totals could be high enough to cause school delays or cancellations.
