Tucked into a neighborhood street in Lansdale, Giuliano’s Deli may be easy to miss. But for its everyday customers, the family-run shop has become a staple of the community.

Giuliano’s, located on 429 N Chestnut St., wasn’t started from scratch by its current owners, the DiPietro family, but rather purchased as an already existing deli with history in Lansdale.

“The store has been here for over 40 years… plenty of people were already familiar with the deli,” Co-owner Tami DiPietro said. Now, as the business approaches its seventh year under new ownership, that familiarity has grown with the North Penn community.

The owners, a husband-and-wife team of Tami and Bob DiPietro, were drawn to the deli business with a shared passion for food. They saw this deli as a long-term plan for the future and hoped the business would be something they could grow together with the help of their children

North Penn student Jake DiPietro spends some of his days after school helping his parents at the deli.

“Balancing school with work can get hard, but luckily my parents are the owners so they cut me some slack with hours… working with your family just makes everything so much easier,” Jake said.

What sets Giuliano’s apart from other delis in the area isn’t just the food, it’s the personal connection. As a family-owned business, the owners pride themselves on flexibility and customer care.

“For regular customers, we personalize things to what they need… we’ll happily tailor their orders,” Tami said.

That welcoming atmosphere has helped Giuliano’s build strong relationships with local families and students within the North Penn community. Located within walking distance of many neighborhoods, Giuliano’s deli is happy to help the numerous North Penn students who stop in. “We’re not corporate, we’re more like friends.” Tami said.

Giuliano’s also makes a consistent effort to give back and make their mark on the community. They frequently partner with the North Penn Marching Band and other local groups through dine and donate events. They also support local youth sports teams and take part in local events such as parades.

“It’s always nice to give back and be present in the community that you live in,” Tami said.

Despite the loyal customer base they have earned, running a small business comes with challenges. Tami DiPietro feels the biggest hurdle Giuliano’s faces is visibility and getting their word out. Located off popular roads like Main Street or Broad Street, the deli can go unnoticed.

“One to two times a week, someone will come in and say, ‘I never knew you were here’,” she said.

Still, the owners remain passionate about what they do and confident in what they offer. Giuliano’s biggest selling point is their homemade food.

“We make our own roast beef in house. We make our own chicken salad, our own tuna, and I do a lot of the baking,” Tami said.

More than just a deli, Giuliano’s has become a neighborhood staple built on trust, care and connection with the North Penn community.
