Two serious vehicle crashes involving rescues were reported within minutes of one another Monday afternoon along Sumneytown Pike, prompting a large emergency response and road closures, involving five ambulances from two EMS agencies, with three trucks transporting patients to area hospitals.

The first crash was reported around noon at Sumneytown Pike and Mainland Road in Towamencin Township. According to Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports, the incident involved three vehicles with reported entrapment and five reported patients.

At least one person was reported to have a head laceration, and a possible young child was also involved. Injuries were not immediately confirmed.

Dispatchers requested three additional ambulances, bringing the total response to four. Sumneytown Pike was shut down at Old Forty Foot Road and Wambold Road as crews worked at the scene. At least one patient was transported to St. Luke's Grand View by 12:25 p.m. Skippack EMS assisted in transport with VMSC.

About 15 minutes later, a second crash was reported at Sumneytown Pike and Carrol Road. Initial reports indicated a two-vehicle crash with at least two people trapped. One VMSC Emergency Medical Services ambulance was dispatched to that incident. An unknown number of patients were transported in the crash by VMSC EMS by 12:30 p.m., per Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports.

Police closed Sumneytown Pike from Troxel Road to Kriebel Road in the second crash.

Responding agencies across both scenes included Skippack EMS, Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company, Hatfield Volunteer Fire Company, Harleysville Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Department and Towamencin Township Police Department.

Authorities had not yet released information on the extent of injuries or the causes of the crashes as of early afternoon.
