About 100 children and staff members were evacuated as a precaution
A burst sprinkler pipe caused water damage and led to the evacuation of a childcare facility Monday afternoon, though no injuries or structural collapse were reported.
Emergency crews were initially dispatched at 1:21 p.m. for building issues at Chalfont West KinderCare, 489 W. Butler Ave.
According to New Britain Township Police, a sprinkler pipe in the ceiling burst in one classroom, causing water damage but no collapse.
About 100 children and staff members were evacuated as a precaution. All children were accounted for, and parents were contacted to pick them up. There was no need for emergency shelter, police said.
Fire units from Chalfont Fire Company responded but were later recalled once it was determined the situation was limited to the sprinkler system, according to Bucks County emergency dispatch reports.
Calls to the facility Monday afternoon failed.
An email was sent to KinderCare’s corporate office seeking additional information.
