Police said suspect attempted return scam, had additional items concealed in backpack
A Montgomery Township woman with 11 prior retail theft convictions charged in connection with an alleged retail theft at a Target store is scheduled for formal arraignment this month in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
Precious Annette Sharp, 39, of the 3100 block of Harvard Drive, faces felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property stemming from a Dec. 24, 2025 incident at Target, 125 Witchwood Drive.
According to the affidavit filed by Montgomery Township Police, officers were dispatched to the store around 10:33 a.m. for a report of an adult female detained for retail theft.
At the store, police said Sharp was seated in the loss prevention office with her personal property, and a loss prevention manager told officers he had observed Sharp selecting multiple items throughout the store via live CCTV.
Police alleged Sharp then went to the customer service desk, purchased one item from her cart, and pointed out four clothing items she said she wanted to return, but did not have the card used for the purchase. Those items were valued at $89, according to the affidavit.
The loss prevention manager reported Sharp exited the store without attempting payment for the four clothing items, and she was stopped in the vestibule and escorted to the loss prevention office, police said.
During a search incident to arrest, police said they recovered three additional merchandise items valued at $64.97 concealed in Sharp’s backpack, bringing the total value of the alleged attempted theft to $153.97.
Sharp is free on $5,000 unsecured bail ahead of a Feb. 18 arraignment.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
