The last weekend in April is traditionally the start of the NFL draft. It is the period in which all National Football League teams can select players to join their ranks. What makes this interesting is that many teams trade their picks, giving them an advantage when it comes to selecting the best talent. This season, the Steelers have several issues they need to address, and they must find the right players for the job with fairly weak selection numbers.
The Steelers hold the number 21 selection in the first round, meaning it is very unlikely that the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have any chance of a real quality prospect. Each draft class has around 15 players who are often graded as first-round talents. The number of those with a first round grade can differ depending on the year, with 12 in 2026, 13 in 2025, 18 in 2024, and 20 in 2023.
A natural top pick in the draft is rare for the Steelers. The last time they had one in the top 15 was in 2023 and 2019. On both occasions, they had to trade up. The last time this happened naturally was in 2014.

Overall, this is being viewed as a fairly weak draft class. Getting hold of top tier talent is going to be tough, especially given the picks available. The Steelers need some teams to trade up with, or at least try to move up once or twice in the next draft.
