Genuardi Florist sources many of its flowers from South America, specifically Colombia, giving clients access to vibrant and unique blooms
For nearly four decades, Johanna Genuardi has been helping families celebrate life’s most memorable moments, from weddings to graduations and, of course, prom. As the owner of Genuardi Florist, Johanna has seen trends come and go, but her passion for flowers, and for making students’ special nights unforgettable, has never faded.
Her love for flowers has been prevalent her entire life. Luckily, it was a big part of her husband’s life, too. His family has owned a greenhouse in Norristown for nearly three decades, giving her exposure to a world of blooms and arrangements. That foundation helped Johanna build a career in floristry that now spans nearly 40 years, making her a trusted resource for weddings, prom nights, and other events in Lansdale and beyond.
“I see more often than not the mom is pinning the boutonniere. If someone wants to come in ahead of time, I can show them how to do it,” Genuardi said, emphasizing the practical side of her work.
Genuardi also notes that planning ahead is key.
“If you have a date and she has a dress, it’s never too early. As soon as you know you have a date and she has a dress, give me a call. The sooner the better,” Genuardi said.
Trends are always evolving, and Johanna encourages creativity.
“We’re getting away from the round style and going to something more natural, like wildflower,” she said, adding that handheld bouquets are replacing the traditional wrist corsages.
Her advice isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s also about making things manageable for your special night. Genuardi notes that while making your own bouquet is an option, it’s always a risk.
“You’re probably going to save some money, but you’re not a professional. If you go to Trader Joe’s on a Tuesday, what are you going to do with the flowers until Saturday? If you go in the morning, how do you know you’re going to get what you want?” Genuardi said.
Some people might want to keep their bouquets for as long as possible after the event has passed. For longevity, Genuardi recommends a simple tip.
“Take it home right after the dance, snip the ends, you’ll have it for weeks.”
Genuardi Florist sources many of its flowers from South America, specifically Colombia, giving clients access to vibrant and unique blooms that aren’t always available locally. Certain specialty flowers require advance ordering, so Genuardi encourages clients to reach out early if they have specific requests.
To showcase her work for this feature, Country Bride Prom & Gent generously lent two dresses, allowing Genuardi’s arrangements to be paired with real prom outfits. The combination of dress, flower, and color highlights her talent for coordinating textures and shades.
Nearly four decades into her career, Genuardi continues to help families celebrate life’s milestones with artistry, precision, and warmth. Her guidance and creativity ensure that each event is not only beautiful, but smooth, stress-free, and memorable.
