Convicted last fall, defendant classified as sexually violent predator
An Upper Salford Township man will spend at least a dozen years in state prison after being sentenced this week for sexually abusing a minor over several years, according to court records.
Lyndell A. Johnson, 63, was sentenced Tuesday in Montgomery County Court to 12 to 24 years in prison after a jury convicted him of aggravated indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors stemming from incidents between 2018 and 2023. The judge also ordered three years of probation following parole, placing Johnson under court supervision for up to 27 years.
Prosecutors said the abuse occurred multiple times when the victim was between 11 and 16 years old, including incidents in Montgomery County and Philadelphia when she was alone with Johnson or in a vehicle near her home. A jury last November found Johnson guilty on the primary charges after several hours of deliberation, while acquitting him of attempted rape.
During sentencing, the court also determined Johnson meets the criteria to be classified as a sexually violent predator, triggering lifetime registration requirements and additional supervision conditions. The investigation began in early 2024 after the victim disclosed the abuse to a boyfriend, leading to a Childline referral and subsequent state police investigation.
