Firefighters across Montgomery County and surrounding areas have been kept busy responding to a string of mulch, brush, and woods fires since Friday, many sparked in commercial areas and residential backyards.

In Upper Salford Township, crews were dispatched Saturday afternoon to the 800 block of Autumn Lane for a backyard brush fire measuring roughly 10 feet in diameter. The fire was contained before it could spread beyond the immediate area.

Commercial properties also saw activity, including a mulch fire Saturday at the Hatfield Pointe Shopping Center along Forty Foot Road in Hatfield Township, where flames were reported near a roadside sign outside a Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

In Upper Dublin Township Saturday afternoon, firefighters were called to Allied Landscape Supply along North Limekiln Pike for a large volume of smoke reported behind the business. Crews adjusted their response while en route and worked under a command assignment upon arrival.

Further south, Cheltenham Township crews handled two separate incidents Saturday morning at the Greenleaf at Cheltenham Mall complex, including a small mulch fire and a separate report of a grass fire smoldering near a building.

The activity began Friday evening in Horsham Township, where firefighters responded to burning bushes near Easton Road and Ruth Avenue, just outside a veterinary clinic.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

Fire officials often warn that mulch beds and dry brush can ignite easily during periods of low humidity and warm temperatures, particularly near roadways, cigarette disposal areas, and commercial landscaping sites.

Residents are urged to use caution with smoking materials, outdoor equipment, and any open flames as conditions continue to favor rapid fire spread.
