Recent incidents highlight importance of context, caution when reporting suspicious activity
Two recent calls involving what appeared to be weapons in Telford Borough ultimately turned out to be harmless situations, according to Telford Borough Police Department.
In one incident on March 13, police were dispatched to East Church Avenue and North Hamilton Avenue for reports of an “armed subject.”
Officers responded after a caller reported a man with what appeared to be a holstered firearm, which was not illegal, but was checked out anyway to be safe.
"It was discovered to be a camera holder and police were shown nature pictures by an excited photographer," police said.
A second incident on March 19 involved a reported disturbance on East Broad Street. A resident provided video to police showing a juvenile chasing another juvenile, while holding what looked like a rifle.
After investigating, police identified the individuals involved and determined the situation was horseplay, with no actual threat.
While neither incident resulted in criminal charges, both prompted a response out of an abundance of caution.
Police warn that reporting suspicious activity remains important, but situations can sometimes appear more serious than they are at first glance.
While context matters —Telford officers will continue to investigate all such reports to ensure public safety.
