Detours, bus changes in place as crews rebuild tracks and roadway, affecting Main Street between East Montgomery and West Montgomery streets
A major rail crossing project will shut down a portion of Main Street in North Wales Borough for nearly a week as SEPTA crews complete track and roadway upgrades.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday and continue through 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, affecting Main Street between East Montgomery and West Montgomery streets. During that time, all through traffic will be detoured around the railroad crossing.
SEPTA crews will perform a full-depth reconstruction of the grade crossing along the Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail Line, removing the existing surface, ties and rails before installing new materials and repaving the roadway.
Officials said the project is expected to provide a smoother ride across the tracks and eliminate cracks and potholes.
Detours will direct motorists to U.S. 202, Route 63, North Wales Road and Walnut Street, with posted signage guiding drivers through the area. Local access to businesses and properties near the closure will be maintained throughout construction.
Regional Rail service on the Lansdale/Doylestown Line will continue as normal during the project, though riders should expect temporary boarding changes at Pennbrook, North Wales and Gwynedd Valley stations on April 11 and 12.
SEPTA’s Route 96 bus will also be detoured, with buses operating along nearby residential streets for the duration of the work.
Residents and drivers are urged to plan ahead, follow posted detours and use caution while traveling through the area during the closure.
