Bruschetta chicken bake, birria tacos, chocolate confections and more were on the menu at the “So You Think You Can Cook” competition Wednesday, April 1.

Tickets once again sold out for the 10th annual cooking competition at the Perseverance Volunteer Firehouse in Souderton. The 17 competing chefs prepared and served a medley of dishes, while attendees were handed scorecards and three tickets with which to vote for their favorites.

“The competition was fierce, the food was delicious, and the community spirit was unbeatable,” said event host Telford Happenings.

This year’s winners were as follows:

Golden Spork Award – Monica Giovanetti and Kameko Gallagher with chocolate confections

Fan Favorite – Monica Giovanetti and Kameko Gallagher with chocolate confections

Celebrity Chef Award – Pearl Spam and Michele and Ben Bright with arancini

Runner-Up Celebrity Chef – Kellie Brunton and family with crab cakes

Best Décor – Crystal Haire and Katie Kennedy with deviled eggs

Other dishes included buffalo mac and cheese, gnocchi in a spinach cream sauce, bacon-wrapped dogs and bananas foster crêpes. In contrast to previous years, this year’s chefs were exclusively non-culinary local business owners.

“Some of the chef participants are just home chefs who want to network and advertise their business,” said event coordinator Liz Peitzman. “And some people just want to win that Golden Spork Award.”

“We got a telecommunications person, landscapers, bankers, home health aides, nurses,” said Liz Herman of Telford Happenings. “It’s a great way for them to advertise their business, build community spirit and just bring joy and great food to the Souderton-Telford area.”

The celebrity judges were Maria Liberati, author of “The Basic Art of Italian Cooking,” Amy Recinos of Amy’s Creative Cakes and Yoel Sanchez of The Café and Catering Co. Including the judges and chefs, the event sold 215 tickets.

Moving forward, Telford Happenings is committed to preserving the popular event for the foreseeable future.

“Telford Happenings enjoys putting on this event and bringing culinary joy to the community,” said Herman.
