A regional clothing drive aimed at helping children in need while reducing textile waste is underway, with Cradles to Crayons-Philadelphia launching its annual Spring Greening collection.

The initiative encourages families to donate outgrown children’s clothing and shoes, which are then distributed to kids in low-income and homeless situations through a network of more than 150 nonprofit and community partners.

Organizers say the need remains significant, with three in five children in Philadelphia considered at risk of clothing insecurity, meaning they lack access to affordable and appropriate clothing. The drive helps stock supplies for the months ahead, ensuring thousands of children have essential items.

Spring Greening also addresses environmental concerns. Americans discard more than 17 million pounds of textiles each year, and Cradles to Crayons works to divert large volumes of donated items from landfills whenever possible.

Donations will be accepted through April 25 at 16 collection sites across the Greater Philadelphia region.

In Montgomery County, drop-off locations include Ambler Municipal Building, Spring Valley YMCA in Royersford, Willow Grove YMCA in Hatboro and the North Wales Municipal Building, which will host collections on April 25 only.

In Delaware County, sites include the Haverford YMCA, Media Municipal Building, Radnor Financial Center and Rocky Run YMCA.

Donations can also be made in Philadelphia at the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory on Wissahickon Avenue.

Residents are encouraged to take part by donating gently used children’s clothing and shoes to help local families while giving items a second life.
