Lansdale Catholic needed one last defensive stand Saturday night, and Russell Holmes Jr. delivered it.
The senior broke into the backfield and sacked West Catholic’s quarterback on fourth down in the final minute, sealing a 20-14 win at North Penn High School’s Crawford Stadium, according to a gameplay report from The Mercury.
The victory pushed the Crusaders to 5-1 overall and kept them unbeaten in Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division play at 3-0. It also marked their fourth straight win since dropping a nonleague game in August, per the report.

According to the gameplay report, on the Burrs’ next possession, Webb Jr. came up big again with an interception that set up Cobbold’s 11-yard scoring run early in the fourth, stretching LC’s lead to 20-8.
West Catholic, however, refused to go quietly. The Burrs pieced together a 13-play drive capped by Kabree Johnson’s short touchdown run midway through the fourth.
The two-point try failed, keeping the margin at six. After both sides traded empty possessions, West Catholic advanced into Crusader territory in the final minute, only for Holmes Jr.’s timely sack to end the rally, according to the article.
Webb Jr. finished with four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown, plus the key interception. Cobbold accounted for two scores — one rushing and one passing — while Nick O’Brien added 59 yards on the ground.
The Crusaders remain tied atop the PCL Blue with Archbishop Ryan and Archbishop Wood. The next match is Friday at Delco Christian.
