Family farm in Hatfield wins Grand Champion and Reserve Champion in National Christmas Tree Association competition

Hague’s Christmas Trees, a family-owned farm that has been part of the Hatfield community for decades, has been recognized on the national stage for its craftsmanship in holiday wreath-making.

The farm took Grand Champion in the Decorated Wreath category and Reserve Champion in the Undecorated Wreath category at the National Christmas Tree Association’s biennial contest, held in late July at Northern Pines Nursery in Michigan. The event brought together growers and artisans from across the country, each first having won state or regional competitions to qualify.

“Making wreaths is a skill, and only the most skilled qualify for and win the national contest,” said NCTA President John Wyckoff in a news release. “You have to be really, really good at it.”

A Hatfield tradition

For locals, Hague’s is already a household name when it comes to Christmas traditions. Located at 755 Forty Foot Road in Hatfield, Hague’s has been welcoming families for generations to pick out their holiday trees, wreaths, and decorations.

Beyond the tree fields, the business is known for its festive farm stand, hand-crafted wreaths, and family-friendly atmosphere that draws visitors back year after year.

On its website, Hague’s emphasizes that their mission is not just selling trees, but creating lasting holiday memories. Visitors can choose from a variety of cut-your-own and pre-cut trees, enjoy wagon rides, and browse a wide selection of holiday décor. Their wreaths, crafted from fresh greens grown on-site, have become a signature product — and now a nationally recognized one.

Preparing for the season

As the Christmas season approaches, Hague’s is preparing for its busiest time of the year, come Nov. 27. Families from across Montgomery and Bucks counties often mark their calendars for the farm’s opening day, knowing they’ll find both tradition and new offerings. In addition to trees and wreaths, the farm stocks garlands, roping, and handmade decorations, as well as warm refreshments to enjoy on chilly December weekends.

The recognition from the NCTA is likely to shine a brighter spotlight on Hague’s this year, further cementing its place as a regional holiday destination.

More than decorations

What sets Hague’s apart, according to longtime customers, is the sense of community woven into every wreath and tree. The farm’s holiday season has become a gathering place, where families return each year to recreate traditions — whether it’s cutting down a tree in the fields, posing for photos among the evergreens, or hanging a Hague’s wreath on the front door to welcome guests.

With national awards now hanging on their record, Hague’s Christmas Trees is poised for another memorable season, bringing the warmth of holiday spirit to homes across the region.

Hague’s is both a grower and retailer of Christmas trees. They offer choose & cut (you go into the field and select a tree to cut yourself) as well as fresh-cut trees sold from their lot. In the choose & cut fields, they supply a cart and saw, and you are free to choose any tree (they do not pre-tag any trees) from varieties such as Nordmann fir, Scotch pine, white pine, eastern red cedar, white spruce, and blue spruce.

Fresh-cut trees are mounted on pin stands in a display sales area; each tree in the lot is tagged with its height and price. Varieties include Douglas fir, Fraser fir, Scotch pine, and Concolor fir.

Hague’s offers classes on making Christmas decorations in their heated wreath barn. You can sign up individually through North Penn Community Education or arrange group classes for 10–15 participants by contacting them
