No parking along downtown street until paving is finished
The busiest street in Lansdale is getting a long-needed makeover.
“Main Street milling and paving project began Monday evening, Sept. 15, and has been moving along nicely,” said borough Manager John Ernst.
“The milling crews begin at 7 p.m. and work until 5 a.m. They have completed milling, curb-to-curb, from Valley Forge Road to just past Chestnut Street, and will continue working their way east . Following the milling crew, the utility adjustment crew got started with manhole casting replacements,” he said.
Work is expected to include new lane striping to add bike lanes, crosswalk upgrades at all major intersections, and related work on some side streets.
During the Sept. 17 council meeting, Ernst gave an update, saying the borough is working with PennDOT and their subcontractors to coordinate the replacement of utility infrastructure underground.
“In addition, the state is responsible for stormwater manholes on this road, and many of them are being replaced under this project as well,” Ernst said.
No full closures or detours are expected, and lane closures and flaggers will keep traffic moving during evening hours, according to the borough. As utility work is finished, paving crews will follow, and signs are posted along the route indicating a prohibition on nighttime parking through Oct. 3 so paving can be done overnight.
