Events range from industry and wartime history to outdoor movie nights and holiday house tours
The Lansdale Historical Society is welcoming the community to a slate of fall programs highlighting the people, places, and stories that shaped the borough. From a classic outdoor movie night to a look at life in Lansdale during World War II, the programs offer engaging ways to experience local history.
Old Time Movie Night in the Yard: "The Thin Man"
On Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m., the Society hosts Old Time Movie Night in the Yard, presented by Bill Henning, with a showing of "The Thin Man." Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to the Jenkins Homestead, 137 Jenkins Avenue, for a classic film under the stars. Light refreshments will be available, or attendees can bring their own.
Pennbrook: From Farms to Foundations
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at Lansdale Borough Hall, One Vine Street, Mindy Oh will present Pennbrook: From Farms to Foundations. The program traces the transformation of rural countryside into the Pennbrook community, showing how waves of development shaped the modern borough.
Homefront: Life in Lansdale, 1941–1945
On Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall, Marsha Althouse presents Homefront: Life in Lansdale, 1941–1945. The program highlights how borough residents and local industries supported the nation’s war effort, offering a window into daily life during one of America’s most trying times.
Holiday House Tour
The season concludes with a community favorite: the Holiday House Tour on Sunday, Dec. 7, from 1 to 5 p.m.. This ticketed event begins at the Jenkins Homestead and includes three vintage homes and one historic Lansdale church, each decorated for the holidays. Advance tickets go on sale Oct. 1 at the Historical Society office and on the Society’s website. Tickets will also be available the day of the event at 137 Jenkins Avenue.
Preserving Lansdale’s Story
Founded in 1972, the Lansdale Historical Society maintains the Jenkins Homestead, the borough’s oldest surviving home. Through community programs, archival collections, and preservation efforts, the Society works to keep Lansdale’s rich past alive for future generations.
