Souderton bounced back in emphatic fashion Friday night, rolling past Harry S. Truman 48-7 in its Suburban One League Continental Conference opener. A week after being shut out by Central Bucks West, the Indians looked sharp from the start, scoring on their first two possessions and never letting up.
Quarterback Ben Walsh was nearly flawless, completing 12 of 13 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns according to The Times Herald. He connected with Chase Hart on a 13-yard score and later hit Hunter Smeltz for an 11-yard strike.
Smeltz finished with four receptions for 64 yards and added a two-point conversion to complete the drive. Running backs Mujana Sudi and Caleb Moyer added three rushing touchdowns to give Souderton a 35-0 halftime lead, according to the gameplay report.
The Indians’ defense also set the tone, holding Truman to just 25 yards in the first half and forcing turnovers. Jimmy Eakins intercepted the Tigers’ first pass attempt, and later in the night, Nate Rusike sealed the victory with an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown. Alex Whitcomb added to the non-offensive scoring with a 75-yard kickoff return in the second half.
Coach Ed Gallagher credited his team’s execution after a week of tough practices. “We came out and did what we needed to do,” he told The Times Herald, adding that the effort on both sides of the ball showed the group had moved past last week’s loss.
Souderton, now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, will host Quakertown next Friday in a key matchup of last year’s Continental Conference co-champions.
