After failing to find a new location for its Lansdale Borough wine tasting room, the owners of Pinnacle Ridge Winery closed the business at 34 Susquehanna Avenue on Sunday, but remain in operation in York County.
"We have been working for nearly a year to find a suitable new home in Lansdale or nearby, and thought we had one in the works. We’re sad to say it didn’t work out as we had hoped," wrote the winery via owner Carl Helrich on Facebook Sunday morning. "Since we have not secured a new space to move into, we have no choice but to close our Lansdale location."
The winery and tasting room remains in operation in Stewartstown, York County.
"We’re only closing the doors in Lansdale and if we can locate to suitable space in the coming months, we’ll definitely consider opening at a new location in the area," said the post.
Pinnacle Ridge Winery opened at the former Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County headquarters and former The Reporter circulation department site in March 2022. It offered group parties of up to six for wine tasting with no reservations. Indoor seating was available for people to enjoy a glass or share a bottle.
In March 2021, the Pinnacle Ridge brand was acquired by the Allegro Wine Company that also owns Allegro Winery (Stewartstown, PA) and Cadenza Vineyards (Brogue, PA). Carl Helrich is the owner and winemaker for the three brands.
Pinnacle Ridge was previously located outside of Kutztown and was founded by Brad Knapp, who retired in February 2021 after 28 years as an award-winning winemaker.
“We selected Lansdale due to its central location between Brad’s former place near Kutztown and all of the business we do in the greater Philadelphia area,” Helrich told North Penn Now in March 2022. “It’s a great town, which already supports two breweries and a distillery, so it seems a perfect match for us.”
Pinnacle Ridge wines will continue to be sold in grocery stores and Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores as well as in restaurants, breweries, and distilleries. Pinnacle Ridge wines are also shipped direct to consumers in 38 states via its website, www.pinridge.com. A subscription wine club is also available. Shipping is included with the purchase of a dozen bottles
